About Us
Our Story | Our Goals
The concept of 2Way Development began in 1999 when Director of 2Way Development Katherine Tubb spent a year with a charity in Nepal, funded by Voluntary Services Overseas. "When working overseas with local not-for-profit organisations I noticed a growing need for volunteers with specific expertise. I often saw skilled volunteers carrying out work that was mismatched to their abilities and to the needs of the communities they were in. This inspired me to establish a company that could offer tailor-made, long-term volunteer placements in international development." 2Way Development was founded in 2003, and has since grown to placing 120 volunteers a year, within over 100 partner organisation worldwide.
2Way Development is about an equal exchange of benefits between our volunteers and our partners. We work in economically developing countries with development organisations that are either run by local people or for local people. We place volunteers in communities where their skills are genuinely needed, where neither funds or the skills are available locally. Volunteers can therefore develop their skills whilst at the same time contribute to something they believe in.
